Holy Cross Church Flower Festival 2024

Friday 30 August - Sunday 1 September

Opening Times Here

Our first flower festival, held in September 2018, brought many people together from across Bearsted and beyond. Holy Cross Church groups – such as toddlers’ groups, the choir, the Holy Cross Singers – and other Bearsted churches and organisations (including the Methodist church, Thurnham school, the Women’s Institute, allotment holders, and tennis club) provided displays that filled the whole church with flowers. All marvellously led by the Holy Cross’ team of flower arrangers. The standard of the displays was exceptional and the overall effect was breathtaking. Visitors came from far and wide to enjoy the flowers and a cream tea.

As in 2018, the 2024 Flower Festival will raise funds for the Holy Cross Church Raise the Roof fund.

Why ‘Raise the Roof’? Recent routine inspections have shown us that our roof and tower are in need of repair. We began amassing funds for this project in 2017 and so far have raised around  £60,000 from Christmas Fayres, concerts, gifts grants, and – of course – our first flower festival. Some of this money has already been used to complete the most urgent works to the roof and guttering.

We have never wanted our fundraising to be a chore. We have always wanted it to be an opportunity to celebrate the church, its congregations and our friends and neighbours in Bearsted by bringing them together to enjoy themselves in and around one of its landmark buildings.

The theme of the 2024 Flower Festival is ‘musicals’. Already, a number of groups and individuals have submitted their ideas for representing individual songs from musicals (or, indeed, the whole musical) in flowers. Their ingenuity and creativity is amazing and I, for one, can’t wait to see the finished articles.

As before, the Flower Festival will run from Friday mid-afternoon to Sunday afternoon (with a break for morning service on Sunday).

We very much look forward to seeing as many of our friends and neighbours as possible. Come and join us and admire our beautiful church building, marvel at the wonderful floral creations and enjoy a delicious cream tea. Then come back later on Sunday afternoon and help us to close the Flower Festival with a celebration evensong – everyone is very welcome.
